|NRA Pistol Instructor Class:
The “gateway” class is the Pistol Instructor followed by the Personal Protection in the Home class. Either one will allow you to teach a Concealed Carry Course in most states. Whichever instructor’s class you take first (I would recommend the Pistol class) will be a two day class. The first day will be the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) class with the second day being the instructor discipline you are signing up for. The BIT is valid for one year and must be retaken when adding another instructor discipline outside of the one year initial validation period. While all classes strictly follow NRA guidelines for new instructors I will talk about conducting a Concealed Carry class in the free time. Please register on line via www. NRA.org and go to the education and training tab. Cost per person $275. Payment Option 1 is paid in full; Payment Option 2 is a $50 nonrefundable deposit, but transferable to a future class.
|Personal Protection in the Home Instructor Class:
A prerequisite for this one day class is the participant must have successfully completed the NRA Pistol Instructor’s Class and the BIT must be current. The PPITH instructors class explains how to teach defensive skills and awareness techniques inside the home. Also included are discussions about establishing a safe room, response to a home invasion, tachypsychia, interacting with a police investigation, and what Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome effects to expect for the shooter and witnesses including children. Information presented in this class will set you apart from the many hobbyist CCW instructors to being one of the few professional CCW instructors. Cost per person $150.
|Basic Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOTH):
This is a two day course. This class is a prerequisite to the PPOTH Instructors course. You must have completed the PPITH or PPITH-I class to be admitted to this class.
|Personal Protection Outside the Home-Instructor (PPOTH-I):
This is a two day course. You must have completed the PPITH-I class and PPOTH basic class to be admitted to this class.
|Range Safety Officer:
While not required for an instructor you will want to take this one day class either on line through the NRA or in the class room with me. Learn how to organize a firing line, appropriate range commands, common safety tips. anticipating and managing common firing line problems, positive range discipline, the different duties of the Chief Range Safety Officer and the Range Officer (and when you need both) and a discussion about developing a Range SOP manual. Cost per person $150.
|Chief Range Safety Officer:
(CRSO) This is a one day Instructor level course. Prerequisites are a NRA Instructor rating in any discipline and completion of the RSO class. The RSO class can be inexpensively taken via correspondence through the NRA once the candidate has an instructor rating. If the instructor’s BIT is more then two years old please contact Bruce at 816-353-6826 for the renewal procedure. The CRSO class will focus on training RSO’s, supervising RSO’s, RSO duties, and firing line positioning. We will also look at developing a Range SOP, Emergency Procedures, plus Range Maintenance issues. This is a non shooting course. If there is time we will tour a local gun range.
